One of the smallest independent countries in the western hemisphere, Grenada was seized by a Marxist military council on 19 October 1983. Six days later the island was invaded by US forces and those of six other Caribbean nations, which quickly captured the ringleaders and their hundreds of Cuban advisers. Free elections were reinstituted the following year.

Hundreds of Jab Jab Revellers flocked to the streets in St. George's, Grenada's capital and rural parishes.
A dazzling visual display by Helen Marie & Associates band lifted the spirits of onlookers who noted that it was one of best and largest bands on the road.
Thousands of visitors mainly Grenadian nationals living abroad returned from Uk, Canada, and New York. lined the streets on Monday and Tuesday to catch a glimpse of the ever-popular Jab Jab and Mas Parade.

"The carnival and atmosphere was absolutely terrific, and the costumes were brilliant. We were amazed at the level of participation despite the problems of Hurricanes Ivan and Emily.
Police said there were no incidents and that it was a trouble-free festival.
